Senate to Receive DHS Secretary Mayorkas' Impeachment Articles Tuesday

The Senate is expected to receive the two articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m., setting up a trial that will test Republican claims that the Biden administration has failed to secure the US-Mexico border.
The House voted to impeach Mayorkas on Feb. 13 over his handling of the border crisis, which has seen a surge in illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Mayorkas is the first Cabinet secretary to be impeached in more than 150 years.
The Mayorkas impeachment trial will kick off at 1 p.m. Wednesday. All 100 senators will be sworn in as jurors, and the trial is expected to last several weeks.
